Abstract
This paper presents the proposal and validation of an algorithm to solve equivalent circuits of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). The developed simulator shows strong agree ment with Ansys Circuit results. Building upon this simulator, we investigate the use of two FIR-based filters and a PID controller to reduce switching time and equalize the SOA output signal. Comparisons in terms of rise time and overshoot are presented for all three methods.
