Abstract
Polar codes are currently used for channel coding in 5G communication systems. On the other hand, spatial diversity with multiple input and multiple output (MIMO), which basically consists of using multiple transmitting and/or receiving antennas, is used to mitigate the effects of fading in signal transmission through the wireless channel. In this context, this paper addresses the performance of combining polar codes with a MIMO system in terms of bit error rate (BER). The results indicate that increasing the code length reduces the error rate, and that the use of multiple antennas substantially improves performance compared to conventional transmission. For example, considering a BER of 2x10^{−5}, gains of up to 5 dB are achieved in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).Download
