Abstract
Parameter estimation tasks can be found in many applications. In high-energy calorimetry, for example, the amplitude from a conditioned readout signal corresponds to the energy deposited from the particle that generated that signal. However, in high event rate conditions, the received signal may be corrupted from nongaussian noise, degrading the performance from typical methods used for energy estimation. This work presents a estimator that is designed for lognormal noise. The efficiency is compared to other two methods commonly used. Under different operation conditions, the results show that the estimation efficiency achieved using the lognormal design surpasses the other methods for the calorimeter considered in this work.
