Abstract
This paper presents an analytical study of congestion on an elastic single link with two traffic classes that request connections with arrival rates that are jointly taken to infinity. Under these conditions, the study shows the emergence of one or more asymptotically absorbing states, which may be extremely unfair against one class. This singularity is derived for an elastic single link with no spectral fragmentation, based on the reversibility of the associated Markovian process. The paper then identifies a solution to keep fairness under congestion. Finally, the extension of this concept to irreversible networks with spectral fragmentation is briefly discussed.
