Abstract
Due to advances in near space vehicle communication, it is necessary to comprehend the influence of rain, clouds and atmospheric gases at the signal level. The present article brings adjustments in the free space pathloss model to consider these climatic effects in the link between a receiver on the ground and a HAPs platform in Brasilia. In addition, the channel capacity is also verified for this communication link. At the end, it is shown that climate change will considerably alter signal attenuation, and, depending on channel fading characteristics, the ergodic capacity indicates the possible rate for a specific signal noise ratio.
