Abstract
"This paper presents a planning methodology of SDH Transmission Network divided in functional layers, emphasizing the Path Layer and the Section Layer. The Path Layer mappes demands of E1 channels (2 Mbps) on Virtual Containers VC-4, transport structure that carries 63 E1 channels. The planning of this layer searches to minimize the number of VC-4 and the amount of times that the 2 Mbps demands are transconnected from a VC-4 to another one along network paths. We use a Rule Based System to optimize this mapping of E1 channels on VC-4. In the Section Layer, the VC-4 are multiplexed on Synchronous Transport Modules (STM) and carried in SDH networks. In this layer, we define the set of equipment to be installed and its transmission rate (155 Mbps, 622 Mbps or 2,5 Gbps), searching some objetives, such as, provides higher network reliability, reduces equipment installation costs, aspects of management and operation network. The resulting model is a Mixed Integer Linear Programming problem. The method presented here has been applied to large size brazilian transmission network."
