Abstract
Noise reduction systems are important part of cochlear implants. This work presents a comparison between two noise reduction techniques based on the principles of spectral-magnitude and temporal-envelope estimations. Computational simulations, using a non-intrusive objective-criteria specifically developed for percentual intelligibility estimation in cochlear implant users, indicate that the method based on the temporal envelope presents a significant higher performance, providing up to 10% increase for SNR ≤ 0 dB as compared to the spectral magnitude estimation method.
