Abstract
This article presents an analysis of microstrip antennas, using metamaterial substrate, for application in the 2.5 GHz frequency. Four antennas were simulated at the 2.5 GHz frequency, three of them with metamaterial substrate and one standard antenna. The antenna 1 used 14 square turns, the antenna 2 used 27 square turns, the antenna 3, 27 split rings. Through the simulated results it was observed that the standard antenna had a bandwidth of 20 MHz and a return loss of -12.49 dB, while antenna 1 had a bandwidth of 40 MHz and a return loss of -16, 89 dB. Antennas 2 and 3 showed a desired frequency shift, with antenna 3 having a bandwidth of 60 MHz. Although the antenna with metamaterial was thicker, it was possible to obtain a reduction of 94% of the area of the patch and reduction in the 79% compared to the standard 2.5 GHz antenna.
