Abstract
In order to attend the traffic demand, it is interesting to use efficiently the frequency spectrum in elastic optical networks. New proposals to prevent and solve the problem of spectral fragmentation may help to achieve this goal. Inverse optical multiplexing, based on superchannel multicasting, appears as a promising tool to tackle with this problem. This article proposes a heuristic that distributes a limited number of multicasting modules between the network nodes, aiming to optimize the frequency spectrum usage. The results show a considerable reduction in the blocking probability of call requests when the heuristic proposed is compared to the procedure that distributes the modules uniformly.
