Abstract
In an industrial Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) the nodes are placed in harsh environments, so it is necessary to deal with problems related to fading and shadowing. In addition, the wireless channel in many industrial environments is non-stationary, and abrupt changes in long term channel characteristics can be observed. Thus, it is necessary to implement mechanisms and protocols to improve the quality of service. The Link Quality Estimators (LQE) are important building blocks for many protocols and mechanisms that use information about the links to improve the WSN performance. This paper evaluates some state-of-the-art LQEs for industrial WSN using a realistic simulation model.
